About
Maryanne ConnellyBorn
in Brooklyn, New York, Maryanne Connelly was raised in Maplewood, New
Jersey. She was raised by her mom, Catherine, with her younger
brother John and sister Kathleen. Maryanne attended high school
in Elizabeth, New Jersey and attended the College of Saint Elizabeth
where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition in
1967. After graduating from college, Maryanne had a one-year
internship at Cornell Medical Center-New York Hospital where she
received her Professional Registration as a Dietician. Maryanne
spent another year working at Cornell Medical Center until she married
her husband, David in 1969. After her marriage, Maryanne returned to
New Jersey where she began her work at Bell Labs as a registered
dietician in 1969. At the encouragement of her colleagues and
supervisors, in 1970, Maryanne started working to get her MBA at night
and received her degree in 1975. Maryanne spent over 25 years
working in the telecommunications industry. Maryanne was
repeatedly promoted through Bell Labs and AT&T and served in
offices around New Jersey and the world. Maryanne served in the
International Division where she implemented AT&T's international
human resources plans and provided support for 11,000 offshore
employees and their families. In 1996, Maryanne was promoted to
Network Commerce Services Director, where she was responsible for
Human Resources in the Internet division of AT&T. In 1998,
Maryanne retired from AT&T. While working at AT&T, Maryanne
became active in her community. In 1981, she was concerned
about zoning and planning around her new home in Fanwood, New Jersey,
and worked hard to Lobby the Fanwood Planning Board to protect her
neighborhood. She served on the Fanwood Planning Board from 1984
to 1986 and from 1996 to 1999. Maryanne ran in 1985 for Fanwood
Council, where she served 9 years, and was appointed Police
Commissioner and Borough President. In 1995, she was elected
Mayor of Fanwood and served her full four-year term, ending in
December 1999. In Fanwood, Maryanne negotiated first single
family Housing plan with NJ Council on Affordable Housing (COAH). Maryanne
has served her community as Chair of the Benedictine Academy Board of
Trustees; Fanwood Board of Education Liaison; Fanwood Library Board of
Directors Member; Raritan Valley Transportation Advisory Board Member;
and as a New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety Member.
She also has Criminal Justice Police Training Certification and New
Jersey Certification for Substitute Teaching. |
